The stupidest thing about lifestyle design is really simple actually. This is one thing that has been bothering me about the idea of being location independent the whole time.
What is it? What’s so stupid about lifestyle design?
The idea of starting a business to make lots of money so that you can do other stuff in your life.
Why is this concept so stupid?
Because you are your business. You start a business because you want to solve problems. You start a business because you have tangible proof that you can help others in a new way.
You don’t start a business so that you can spend more time on rock climbing in Thailand or to be able to spend all day drinking on the beach in Argentina. You don’t start a business so that you can start a blog where you brag about “following your passions.”
What’s being location independent about to me?
For me being location independent doesn’t mean less work, easier work, hanging out on the beach all day, or going online to brag about how cool life is. Being location independent is a creative endeavor. It’s the opportunity to travel the world while running a business/generating income from your laptop.
Now don’t get me wrong because I’m all for the idea of being location independent and traveling the world. I do however believe that you need to stand behind your business 100%. All lifestyle design bloggers aren’t guilty of this. There are just too many lifestyle design bloggers out there that preach the idea of starting an iguana grooming business so that you can spend more time on surfing. Wtf?
